The character proves continuously popular worldwide: at least 80 million copies of the books have been sold, and the books have been translated into over 45 languages.

Illustrations of the character evolved over time to reflect contemporary styles. In 2012, the Girl Detective series ended, and a new series, Nancy Drew Diaries, was launched in 2013.

Launched in 2004, the Girl Detective series features Nancy driving a hybrid electric vehicle and using a cell phone. The original Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series started in 1930 and ended in 2003. In the 1980s, an older and more professional Nancy emerged in a new series, The Nancy Drew Files, that included romantic subplots for the sleuth.

In the revision process, the heroine's original character was changed to be less unruly and violent. The books were extensively revised and shortened, beginning in 1959, partly to lower the printing costs with arguable success. Over the decades, the character evolved in response to changes in US culture and tastes. The books are ghostwritten by a number of authors and published under the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene. → The last-ever mentions in the ND ‘verse of Sonny’s alien nonsense and then they can go back to other things.Nancy Drew is a fictional character, a sleuth in an American mystery series created by publisher Edward Stratemeyer as the female counterpart to his Hardy Boys series. → (Apologies to the NM Nancy fan who’s been posting in the tag about how a Roswell game would be a waste of New Mexico… I’d already made this graphic when I saw the first post!) → Jamila, but a Jamila who isn’t totally swept up in Sonny’s nonsense. What happened in the town of Roswell? Will the Bess of 1947 be able to change the course of human understanding? Will Nancy today save Jamila from a cult more obsessed than Sonny is with the Anunnaki quest? And will the George of the future choose Bess and Nancy, or the important – and classified – work she’s doing in New Mexico with Sonny? When the sky clears, the road forks: turn left, and the gang are in the Roswell of 1947, where they might be able to solve this mystery before it begins go straight, and they remain in 2015, where a stay at a UFO-themed B&B might prove the key to everything turn right, and they’re in 2047… where the only mystery is why they aren’t friends anymore, and how to find each other. Less likely, though, is the dust storm that sweeps them up as they cross Chaco Canyon. Nancy doesn’t question why Sonny and Jamila are on the side of the road waiting for the roadster as soon as she, Bess, and George cross into New Mexico.
